Expectations

Expectations

Expectations seem to be of great concern
In the people of America today

One can tell by the flash of an eye
That they're looking to you for their piece of the pie
That they're waiting for you to make the call
That's gonna put them one step ahead
And going to make you hurt in the head

You've been working all day
You're on your way home
To feel the pleasures
You treasure

You expect to see
Your fine trimmed lawn
But curiously so
It seems to be gone

Your wife is anxiously waiting
For your return
She is looking for you to drive up
Smiling up at the window
Where she is standing
But she does not realize
That you're not coming home (because)

Expectations seem to be of great concern
In the people of America today

One can tell by the flash of an eye
That they're looking to you for their piece of the pie
That they're waiting for you to make the call
That's gonna put them one step ahead
And going to put you deeper in debt
